At the heart of the community

Sheffield is a city in South Yorkshire, named due to its origins in a field on the River Sheaf running through it. The City is most famous for its steel and mining industry, obtained global recognition in the 19th century for its production of steel. With an estimated total of over two million trees, Sheffield has more trees per person than any other city in Europe. Derbyshire Building Society opened its branch in the heart of the city in 1968 and celebrated its 40th anniversary last year.
